Joe Wier started wrestling in High School as a freshman and from his first match, wrestling was and still is his life. By Joe's Senior year, he was a runner-up in Illinois for Belleville East High School. When he graduated, he decided to go to Junior College (or JUCO) at Southwestern Illinois College, and while he was there, he was a two-time NJCAA All-American. After two years in JUCO, he got a scholarship to the University of Missouri and capped off his career with a Big Eight gold medal in 1996 at the 177 pound weight class. In winning this title, he was the last Big Eight champion for the University of Missouri before the conference converted to the Big 12. Joe coached High School wrestling for 15 years and came out with four individual state titles and 24 state medals in Missouri. He is also a coach of youth wrestling in St. Louis, Missouri and is one of the lead clinicians for Foundation Wrestling.
